What is the DCA?
Members of the Downtown Cleburne Association (DCA) are people interested in making the downtown business district a vibrant and viable location for activity and commerce. The Organization has existed since 1966 and has assumed several roles in it’s history to serve it’s members. Membership is open to anyone that has an interest in helping DCA meet it’s objectives.

What do we do?
DCA sponsors several activities and events that focus attention in the downtown business district. The Christmas ‘Festival of Lights Parade” is held the first weekend of December. Springfest, held the first week of May, has expanded to a full weekend event. DCA also sponsors a kids Halloween party. In 2006 DCA added Christmas store window decorating as a successful project.

Making New
Redevelopment of the downtown business district is a joint effort by government, businesses, and citizens. One role that DCA can perform is as a sounding board for businesses and citizens to work with City of Cleburne and Johnson County officials to meet the needs and desires expressed. DCA can be an encourager and a voice expressing the hopes and desires of many.

Utilizing Funds
Private money and Government money is already at work to beautify and improve the appeal of the downtown business district. One should build upon the other. DCA spends a portion of it’s funds to pay a supervisor to monitor community service manpower cleaning up the downtown district on Sunday mornings.

Making an Impact
Even though DCA has limited ability to impact tangible development in the downtown district, we did have a significant impact in 2008. DCA was the motivating factor in making it possible for the Plaza Theatre Company to establish a constantly running entertainment destination in Cleburne. We made a substantial financial contribution to help organize that effort. In 2008 Plaza Theatre seated over 29,000 patrons with plans to grow even larger in 2009. The private money renovation of the 111 S. Main building is now a permanent home for Plaza Theatre Company creating a new beautiful addition to the Cleburne cityscape.

Moving Forward
An ambitious list of a variety of new projects are being considered for 2009. In addition to the projects the DCA intiates, we are also a willing supporter of other activities that help make Downtown Cleburne “The Place To Be”.
